Q&A with Abi Cleeve, Managing Director of Ultrasun UK

As the driving force behind Ultrasun in the UK and founder of SkinSense, Abi has spent over two decades championing daily SPF as the ultimate skin investment. In this Q&A, she shares the story behind Ultrasun, her personal skincare routine, and the products she can’t live without.

What's the story behind Ultrasun?

When I first discovered Ultrasun over two decades ago, I was working in beauty distribution and came across this extraordinary Swiss suncare brand. It offered long-lasting, photostable protection, and gentle formulations for even the most sensitive skin — something the market just didn’t have at the time. 

Back then, SPF was very much a “holiday-only” product, but I saw an opportunity to change that and make daily sun protection easy, enjoyable, and part of everyone’s skincare routine. That’s where Ultrasun found its niche — high-performance sun protection that works like luxury skincare.

What’s your favourite moment in nature?

There’s a small bay in Greece I visit where the sea is glass-clear and sunlight dances over the sand below. Sitting there in the early morning, hearing nothing but the water, is my version of meditation.

What does your daily skincare or suncare routine look like?

My mornings start with a gentle cleanse, followed by SkinSense Multi-Peptide Serum — it delivers powerful actives and hydration all day thanks to our lamellar technology. Then I apply my Ultrasun SPF, usually the Anti-Pigmentation SPF50+ or Face SPF50+, depending on the day. If I’m heading outside for long periods, I’ll choose Ultrasun Extreme SPF50+ for all-over high protection.

In the evening, I double cleanse, use SkinSense Retinol Serum or Overnight Leave-On Mask for repair, and finish with a nourishing night cream.
